What are some of the top free roaming, open world PC games?

I'm getting a new laptop soon and I was wondering if anyone could help me find some good free roaming, open world-type games. Games like Spiderman 2, Morrowind, etc. I'm looking for newer games though such as Fallout 3, Oblivion, etc. I suppose more advanced graphics. Any good suggestions? I think you would benefit a lot from Steam ( http://store.steampowered.com/ ). Steam is created by Valve (the creators of Portal, Half-Life, and Team Fortress) and is meant to be a game distribution network. You can download bought games from your Steam account to any computer with the Steam software (which is a free download). Steam also has tons of free demos so you can try before you buy. The best part is games that are on Steam remove the DRM that comes from the commercial version of the game (example would be Spore).



If you just looking for a free game I also suggest you checkout the games section of Sourceforge ( http://sourceforge.net/ ). Sourceforge is a hosting site for various FLOSS (Free Libre Open Source Software) programs. The programs are free to download (though if you really enjoy a game you can donate to the project) and share. There are some truly awesome hidden gems there.
Far Cry 2 for sure. It has something like 50km^2 of free roamable african savannah. A fantastic game, I just hope your laptop can handle it..What are some of the top free roaming, open world PC games?
