Do sanbox games like spiderman 2 and grand theft auto load the whole map or just the part you're in?

You see, Spiderman 2 is a really good game. You can go anywhere around Manhattan and like 2 or 3 other islands. You can move really quickly and it doesn't lag at all. It has a fairly long loading screen though before you start playing.



As you move around the city, you see building in the distance but THEY AREN'T THAT DETAILED. when you get quite close to the buildings they get more detailed but when you are touching them the details aren't even that good.



And when you walk past people on the street, their faces have terrible graphics. I mean, they have no detail at all and are really square-shaped.



Although Spiderman 2 is definitely the best movie game for the Gamecube without a doubt.Do sanbox games like spiderman 2 and grand theft auto load the whole map or just the part you're in?
A lot of sandbox games borrow from God of War. It loads in the background so that when you get to new areas, it's already loaded so there's no delay.Do sanbox games like spiderman 2 and grand theft auto load the whole map or just the part you're in?
Just the part your in, they keep a constant loading though so you rarely notice it
